It’s almost February, which means the Polar Plunge is right around the corner.
A local Polar Plunge event in Fenton is actively signing up participants and sponsors. Scan the QR code with this story or visit plungemi.com to sign up for plunges across the state. The Fenton event at the Moose Lodge alone raised more than $140,000 last year.
Grab your friends, family, coworkers—whoever’s crazy enough to jump into freezing Lake Fenton with you. Everyone is invited to participate alone or with a team. Participants who raise $100 or more earn an event sweatshirt and lunch.

To make the event even more memorable, costumes are encouraged.
The statewide Polar Plunge is a series of events where people go to the extreme to support Special Olympics Michigan. Special Olympics Michigan works to create a world that accepts and welcomes every person, regardless of ability or disability.
The Polar Plunge is its largest fundraiser, and all funds raised help provide year-round training and services to more than 23,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities across the state.

As in years past, the Fenton Polar Plunge will be held at the Fenton Moose Lodge, 2245 Sonora Drive, Fenton. Plunger check-in begins at 11 a.m., and at 1 p.m. the brave participants begin plunging into Lake Fenton.
The Fenton fundraising event is presented by Torch Run Law Enforcement for Special Olympics Michigan, the Fenton Moose Lodge on Lake Fenton, and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
Fundraising is required to participate in the Polar Plunge, but the $100 minimum makes a big impact—especially in times when the organization needs it most.
How to get involved:
- Register for one of the 27 statewide events.
- Set your fundraising goal. Raising $100 earns you the 2026 Polar Plunge sweatshirt. Check out this year’s incentives for higher levels.
- Ask your friends, family, and coworkers to join your team—the bigger the team, the better!
Special Olympics Michigan (SOMI) reserves the right to delay, shorten, or, in rare circumstances, cancel the event due to inclement weather or natural disaster. Safety is the top priority. Event staff will partner with the National Weather Service and local law enforcement to ensure safe conditions. SOMI will notify participants of any changes by email, website, and social media no later than two hours before registration begins. In the event of cancellation, earned incentives will be mailed to participants.
