Dear Readers,

We’ve featured many images of Flint on our cover, but the story this month’s artwork represents is a bit different. The conceptual drawing is from the 1960 Master Plan for Flint, a view of Downtown First St. For our piece entitled, “Flint’s Future: Community Leaders Think Forward,” we reached out to a group of men and women who are helping Flint move in a positive direction and asked them to share their thoughts about Flint’s future in the coming decades. Over the last decade, we have watched Flint begin a rebirth. Led by substantial investment from the C.S. Mott and Ruth Mott Foundations, a group of visionary entrepreneurs, UM-Flint, Michigan State, Mott Community College and the State of Michigan, our city is poised to enter a second phase of revitalization. I believe this second phase will create a vibrant city with a culturally diverse population, and K-12 and higher education will play key roles. MCM’s readership demands that the city’s best minds contribute to this article, and we accomplished that.

Of course, every issue of MCM highlights people who have helped make the world – and Flint – a better place. Included this month is the group recently honored by the Genesee District Library at the annual Black History Month Brunch: Melinda Anderson, Dr. Recco Santee Richardson, Dr. Karen Weaver, and the members of Ivy House. Also profiled is Shea Automotive Group Owner, Stacy Fields – she’s leading the Shea team toward growth and supporting the community. And, helping Greater Flint kids in need is a group of brave souls who will participate in the 2020 Teddy Bear Ball dance competition (in April), an annual fundraiser for the Genesee County Teddy Bear Patrol. The amateur dancers include My City Director of Events, Gerri Poage, and I am excited to be co-hosting the event.

Rounding out the content are “My Eats,” “My Fun” the next installment of our “My History” series on Genesee County AND hundreds of faces in our ten-page “My Haps” section. Be sure to see the list of upcoming events hosted by My City Magazine – we hope to see you!

Finally, it’s time to vote for our City’s Choice Awards through March 31. These awards have become a sought-after honor in Greater Flint, so take a few minutes to recognize your favorite restaurants, shops, service providers and more. Visit mycitymag.com/awards and vote now!

Happy spring and thanks for reading!
