Delightful Details

The SHIFT team has already begun tracking the best fall fashion trends to look forward to when temperatures start to drop … again. But if you’re like us and you aren’t ready to think about the next round of cooler weather just yet, you can still shop our favorite spring/summer fashion trends while there’s still time to prep your wardrobe for layering season!

So far through the 2023 season, we have seen the comeback of tailored blazers – from double-breasted with gold buttons to open and drapey, this silhouette is here to stay. But add to your fall thoughts additional staples with classic tailoring. Think shirtdresses and pintuck detailing that makes dresses, tops and bottoms all fit just that much better and add just a little bit more structure to our lives this fall. Remember that the 2023 Color of the Year is magenta, and the main undertones of magenta are shades of RED – this color is taking the industry by storm. Red for the 4th of July will literally bleed into fashion for fall and winter, so choose wisely and your staple pieces can carry you through multiple seasons all the way through Christmas and the holidays!

Textures are going to be important in fall looks – the ruffle hem and trim are still strong, but seek to add touches of lace and Georgian-style rosettes for texture and visual depth. These details may be sewn in and integral to the apparel; but also look for adornments such as brooches, pins, belts and additive accessories and well, you know how we feel about accessories … They matter big time!

In the May issue, I wrote about color – oranges, hot pinks and reds and warm tones, in addition to classic shades of blue and our new fave, green and all of its shades. Neutrals can and should be incorporated to temper this fashion-forward approach. Add texture to oatmeal and natural colors with lace or crocheted sleeves on sweaters, sheer panels or sheer shirts over a cami, or under a blazer for added depth to your outfit.

Leather is key and returning for the season. Pair leather pants or a suede skirt with a pop of orange, red or magenta on top and BOOM – this girl is on fire! Or try the reverse: a leather or suede top with silky cargo pants for the added WOW factor in a bold look for August and September.

And let’s not forget about the maxi – in dresses and skirts, this go-to style is continuing to be a fave on the runways. For late summer, pair it with cowboy boots or leather booties for a classic-meets-contemporary look. Add a suede or felt fedora for good measure! Add leather accessories, earrings especially, to bring color and texture to an already great outfit.

SHIFT on in … We have you covered for late summer fashion!
