December is generally considered one of the best months to get a good deal on a vehicle, because dealerships are eager to move out their inventory and meet their sales goals for the year, which often leads to bigger discounts and incentives. So if you’re in the market, now could be a good time to do some car shopping.
When it comes to selecting and buying vehicles, I have always been very lucky. Except one time when I bought a pre-owned Ford Bronco from Craigslist. It was okay; but for some reason, I hated that SUV! It was still running well when I sold it to a junk car buyer right from my driveway. Good riddance!
Today, I own the best car ever – and people think I’ve lost my mind when I tell the story of how I came to buy it.
A few years ago, I was in the market for another vehicle and I did what every smart car buyer does: I consulted the internet. I found my car on Al Serra’s (Grand Blanc) website. It was beautiful, in my opinion, previously owned with very low mileage and a perfect body.
I expressed interest and the very next morning, a nice salesperson named Karla called me. It was 9:30am. We talked over the price and terms and then she asked, “Do you want to come in for a test drive?” I answered, “No. I want you to do it. Drive it around your lot and take it out on the Grand Blanc streets.” She did that and called me about an hour later. I asked her one question, “Would you sell it to your mother?” She answered, “Absolutely, without hesitation.” So, we talked about details, made a cash deal, arranged payment and the proper insurance, and my beautiful, red 2012 Chevy Impala was delivered to my house at 2:30pm on the same day, five hours later.
The very next day, I went to Rite-Aid and when I came out of the store, a man approached me and asked if I wanted to sell my car. I was floored! I said, “Uh, no. I just bought it yesterday.” He said “too bad” and walked away. Since then, I’ve had four more men approach me to buy my car. I had no idea when I bought it that Chevy had stopped making Impalas in 2020.
More recently, I was at another store and taking my sweet time before I noticed a man waiting for me to get moving. I said, “Oh, I’m sorry – I was just admiring your beautiful car. It was a super-slick, white sports car with black trim (looked it up later, a $250,000 vehicle). He said, “Yeah, but I don’t like the monthly payments. Do you wanna trade?” WHAAAAT? He then remarked that the Chevy Impala was the best car ever made.
I still have the car.
Happy shopping and Merry Christmas!
