Known since 1969 as the “City of Flags,” Davison is a great place to live and raise a family! The heart of the city is Main Street, with many longstanding businesses, shops and eateries. On October 10-11, the city will celebrate fall with its 25th-annual Pumpkin Fest. Two days of fun includes hayrides, pumpkin pie-eating contests, and trick-or-treating. Another popular Davison event is the annual Festival of Flags in June. Nature-lovers enjoy the walking trails and pet-lovers frequent the popular Davison Dog Park. The city’s most important feature, according to longtime resident Katie Lyon, is the strong sense of community. “People in Davison not only support the area businesses, but also support each other,” she says. “It’s all about community.”
The first of its kind in Genesee County, this park is enjoyed by dogs and their owners in Davison and the surrounding area. The Davison Area Environmental Team, in conjunction with local volunteers and community businesses, worked together to provide the off-leash facility, which is located adjacent to the Black Creek Nature Trail on N. Gale Road between Davison Road and Court Street, just south of the railroad tracks. Open daily from dawn until dusk, the park has a doghouse entryway, pavilions, small-dog and all-dog areas, Powerloos, fire hydrant watering stations, a dog bone walk and a fire hydrant water fountain.

Begun by Paul Joseph “Rocky” Roll, who grew up outdoors on a farm in Perry, MI, Rocky’s Great Outdoors has been an institution in Burton since 1971. Now retired, Rocky and his wife Linda are enjoying life in their beautiful Lake Fenton home, while the dependable staff at Rocky’s handles daily operation.

There’s something sweet happening at Almar Orchard in Flushing. The 150-year-old apple orchard is expanding its production of J.K. Scrumpy, a hard cider beverage that has become extremely popular all around the world. The story of this scrumpy is one of family tradition, hard work and foresight.
Vibrant and historic, Flushing’s downtown is home to many unique and charming shops and restaurants. The civic pride is very strong, and it shows. In the spring and summer, Main Street is lined with baskets overflowing with gorgeous flowers, provided through a unique partnership between the city and the GFWC Women’s Group, which purchases and plants the flowers while the city keeps them watered.
