The Genesee County Chiefs of Police Association, Genesee Intermediate School District, Weiss Child Advocacy Center, Easterseals, Genesee Health System (GHS), Whaley Children’s Center and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services – Genesee County office all collaborated to launch a Handle With Care pilot program in Genesee County schools for the 2018-19 school year.

Jason Caya, Vice President of the Hurley Board of Managers, recently graduated from the year-long Excellence in Governance Fellowship through The Michigan Hospital Association (MHA). He walks in the footsteps of fellow board members Chris Flores, Charlotte Edwards, Carl Bekofske, Phil Shaltz and Frances Gilcreast.

In 1990, the international science community undertook a massive task: The Human Genome Project was started with the goal of mapping the complete sequence of the human genome. After 13 years, the project was successful and by 2003, it enabled mapping of the sequence of the human genome’s almost three billion base pairs. It was a phenomenal feat of research and its impact on the medical and biological fields has been incalculable. We, as a race, now hold an “instruction manual” for making the human body. The full map is made freely accessible to all, for public or private use, by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NIH, 2008). Since completion of the project, the applications of this knowledge have been numerous.

It was a long time coming, but Goki Goki Korean BBQ & Specialty Meat Market finally opened its doors in June of this year. Located off North LeRoy Street in Fenton, the 6,500-square-foot building was completely renovated inside and out, according to Joe Kim, who co-owns the restaurant with his brother, John. Their sister, Jenna Pak-Kim, is vice president and helps keep things running smoothly. “We put three and a half years of our blood, sweat and tears into this place,” Joe shares.
