hurley-7Carol Fechik has seen it all. As a Registered Nurse at Hurley Medical Center, she has worked in the Emergency Room for 37 years. Born and raised in Flint, Carol began her career with Hurley in 1969 and has seen the hospital change and grow over the years – from hand-writing patient charts to using state-of-the-art technology. Why did she choose to be a nurse? “It was something I always wanted to do, even as a child,” Carol says. “I like to take care of people.” Her favorite part of the job is bedside nursing. “You get to interact with the patient and help improve the quality of their life.”

ffd-9The City of Flint Fire Department is Genesee County’s largest full-time fire department. Under the direction of Fire Chief David Cox, the dedicated team of firefighters and support staff are ready around the clock and at a moment’s notice to respond to fires and other emergencies that endanger human lives.

mspchopper-22Throughout his two decades in law enforcement, Trooper Don Zinz has saved lives and has apprehended dangerous criminals. He’s been a part of police actions that made national headlines and has won several awards as a result.

As the top official in a university setting, a chancellor is responsible for the entire faculty and student body as well as the financial health and well-being of the school.

Now in her 20th year as the director of the Flint School of Performing Arts, she is still excited about the school’s impact on the community – and grateful that her career path led her to direct the largest community arts school in Michigan, serving more than 3,500 people who share her passion for the arts.
