Be True to You

Marching into March with arctic-like temps makes it hard to “think spring” but we’re going to get you ready for a warm-weather getaway with this month’s style trends.

For the year ahead, the vibe is all about you – projecting a sense of your true self to the world. Sure, that’s the point of personal style; but after a few years dominated by tailored looks and “sophisticated (and, some might say, boring) luxury”, it’s now trendier than ever to dress for your own ideal.

If you’re struggling to find your personal style, you’re not alone. You’d think figuring out what you like to wear would be intuitive, but it’s rarely that straightforward. These days, it can feel like we’re all just copying what we see on social media in order to keep up with the multitude of “aesthetics” we’re told to emulate, to the point where maybe nothing feels personal anymore. AND, here’s the tricky thing: most of us do not fall neatly into one style type but instead, straddle two or even three!

There are endless factors that contribute to one’s personal style – body type, personal preferences and even peer pressure. Start with these questions:

Think about a celebrity whose style you love or would like to emulate – what are the key characteristics? Or, if you can’t think of anyone, do a web search for images using keywords like “classic,” “bohemian,” “feminine,” “Y2K” or “quiet luxury,” as this will organically lead you to some garment brands or particular pieces you are drawn to.

Are you truly comfortable wearing that style? When stepping out into the world, the last thing you want is to feel awkward in your clothes – no tugging, pulling, uncomfortable pinching – notice the fit; is it figure-skimming? Is it more slim on the bottom with a relaxed top, or the reverse? Do you actually like it? If the style is “dad sneakers” but you love to wear pointy pumps, skip the trend if it doesn’t resonate with your core style.

Now, let’s talk about spring! Boho style is officially here to stay, as is classic American prep (and a close cousin influenced by coastal living). And this Spring Break, high tides call for the best stripes – from sweaters to beachy pants to novelty dresses and even earrings and accessories. Stripes are IN for spring so be proud, nauti and FUN with head-to-toe lines! Boho dressing often features embroidery, eyelet details, blousy-fit tops with a tassel tie or a feminine print. Last fall, the spring runway looks were blooming with bouquets of prints on every style of dress, from light florals to a mixed-matched garden party of patterns.

Angelic ruffles gave way to movement in skirts and dresses with an airy and effortless drape. Ruffles are still adorning sleeves, hems and collars, as well.

Winter style was predominantly filled with understated colors – remember mocha and all the coffee-inspired hues? Well, this spring season will bring a lighter color palette full of punchy hues to take over the market. Vibrant blues are steadily growing in popularity; specifically, cerulean and teal are top picks as well as tangerine, generating an extreme web search volume and 1B views on TikTok!

Continuing from the fall and winter, cherry red remains a market fave and is great in cute, lightweight sweaters, an easy-breezy linen blend pant or even fun earrings. And lemon-lime is a fresh-feeling color that’s up-and-coming for resort wear and will carry into summer.
