Vivre la nuit! It was a fête with a purpose as Whaley Children’s Center held its 29th annual fundraiser, The World’s Greatest Office Party, on December 5 at the Holiday Inn Gateway Centre in Grand Blanc Township. And the event is probably the area’s oldest fundraiser, says Katrina Khouri, Development Director at Whaley. “This is a huge community event that attracts a lot of people from all across Genesee County!” she exclaimed. The party isn’t just a good time; it provides much-needed funding for the children at Whaley Children’s Center.

This year’s theme was « Laissez le bon temps rouler » or Let the good times roll! The ambiance was that of The French Quarter in New Orleans, with street performers playing the saxophone and other instruments. Live music was provided by Soul Serenade and Liquid Entertainment. Deejays Cha’Chi and BenJamin’ added to the excitement and Living Art was provided by Corunna High School students, who painted themselves to become statues for the occasion.

Attended by approximately 900 people, this year’s event raised approximately $60,500 which Katrina said exceeded their goal by more than $10,500. The previous record for funds raised was $44,503 from the 2006 party. “We are so blessed that the community supported us so generously for this event and truly throughout the entire year,” she said. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the turnout,” Katrina added, saying that while many longtime supporters attended, there were many first-timers, as well. “It really is a party with a purpose!” she exclaimed.
