Our Mission

Voices for Children is dedicated to
serving child survivors of abuse and their
families in Genesee and Shiawassee counties
while enhancing the lives of all children
through treatment, education and increased
community awareness.

Key Services

Voices for Children is Genesee County’s accredited Children’s Advocacy Center, serving children and families throughout Genesee and Shiawassee counties. The organization provides children and families with hope, help and healing following experiences of grief, trauma, abuse, neglect, human trafficking, witnessing violence or the loss of a loved one.

HOPE – Victim and family advocacy, case management and trauma-informed forensic interviews help children share what happened in a safe, supportive environment. Forensic interviews allow children to tell their story one time rather than repeatedly relive their trauma.

HELP – Voices for Children supports children ages 0–17 and their non-offending caregivers as they navigate the justice system and connect with resources such as basic needs, educational resources and general assistance. Kinship Care support is also available to help relatives and other caregivers caring for children navigate resources and services. Voices for Children also facilitates the Genesee County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program, connecting children in foster care with highly trained volunteers.

HEALING – Free counseling and therapy services are available to child survivors and their families. Therapists specialize in supporting children from toddlers through teens, with support groups also available. Grief Support helps young children and teens navigate the loss of a loved one and find support throughout the grieving process.

A VOICE – Prevention education helps children, families and community members recognize, prevent and report suspected child maltreatment. Voices for Children offers free community training on topics including internet safety, human trafficking prevention, trauma-informed care, adverse childhood experiences and more. Body-safety education is also available for young children.

The community is invited to schedule a tour of the Big Blue House and see firsthand the work Voices for Children does for children and families in our community.

How Can the Community Help?

There are many ways to support children and families in our community:

Give – Every gift helps provide critical services to children and families.

Volunteer – Become a CASA volunteer or support Voices for Children in other ways.

Donate Needed Items – Gift cards, gas cards, tissues, paper products, snacks and beverages help meet everyday needs.

Attend a Free Training – Learn how you can help recognize and prevent child abuse.

Spread the Word – Become a Community Ambassador and help others learn about Voices for Children and the services it provides.

Are There Plans to Enhance Services?

Voices for Children is continually working to expand and strengthen services to meet the changing needs of children and families. Over the past year, the organization added Grief Support services to help fill an important gap in care for children and families in our community.

Voices for Children remains committed to identifying unmet needs and filling service gaps as they emerge. As the organization moves forward, it plans to continue growing its programs and expanding access to the support children and families need, while raising awareness about child abuse, neglect and human trafficking and strengthening prevention education throughout the community.

The goal is to ensure that no child or family has to navigate these challenges without support while continuing to build a safer, healthier community for every child.
