Hannah Johnson is this month’s My City Magazine’s Student Standout. Hannah has earned a 3.489 GPA while successfully completing two Advanced Placement (AP) courses. She has committed to Saginaw Valley State University for softball. She is a two-time national champion with the Little League softball team.

Tell us all about your two-time national champion softball experience.
Looking back on the two World Series championships my teammates and I were fortunate enough to win, it’s hard to even put the experience into words. Being able to represent Grand Blanc, Michigan, while playing a sport I love alongside teammates who have become more like family is something I’ll always be grateful for. These experiences have given me memories and relationships that I know I’ll carry with me for a long time.
What else keeps you busy?
During my freshman and sophomore years, I played both varsity volleyball and varsity softball. While I still enjoy playing volleyball, I decided to focus solely on softball because it was the sport I wanted to pursue in college. Outside of softball, I enjoy playing pickleball, cornhole and snowboarding, and I participated in powderpuff this year.
I also enjoy spending time with my friends and family, helping with my sister’s Cerebral Palsy Warriors team, and mentoring younger softball players. In the winter, I love to snowboard, and during the summer, my family and I enjoy camping whenever we get the chance.
What is your favorite class?
If I had to choose a favorite, it would probably be AP Psychology. I really enjoy learning about the human brain and body, especially how they work together and affect the way we think, feel and behave. I find it interesting to learn why people act the way they do and how different parts of the brain can influence us.
Do you have a favorite teacher?
One of the teachers who has made the biggest impact on my life is Mr. Runkle, my junior-year math teacher. He has always been someone who supports me and is there when I need someone to talk to. He has probably listened to me complain about more things than he ever signed up for, but he always takes the time to listen anyway.
Do you have a career path in mind?
I want to major in human behavior/psychology. I’d eventually like to work in forensics within the government.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I would like to see myself working in forensics within the government. I have always been interested in crime, investigations and understanding how evidence can help solve cases. I hope to have a career where I can use my skills to help others and make a difference. I also hope to have strong friendships, spend time with the people I care about and travel to new places. I want to experience new things, make memories and enjoy life while continuing to work toward a career I am passionate about and proud of.

What advice do you have for younger students?
Be your own person. Don’t feel like you have to change who you are or what you want just to fit in with everyone else. Everyone has their own path, and it’s okay if yours looks different. Do what makes you happy, believe in yourself and don’t be afraid to stand out.
