Nearly 4,000 people attended the 23rd annual Gaines Community Rodeo featuring the Flying Star Rodeo K9 Jaeger Foundation Series Rodeo at Pine Hill Park in Gaines on July 17 and 18. Friday attracted approximately 1,200 guests while Saturday attracted approximately 2,600 guests.
The purpose of the Gaines Community Rodeo is much more than providing a weekend of rodeo entertainment. It was created as a community fundraiser and outreach event by the Knights of Columbus Council 12186 to raise money that can be returned to local families, organizations and charitable causes.
The rodeo began in 2002 when the newly formed council was looking for a way to raise funds and better serve the Gaines community. What started as a small local event has grown into a major annual tradition that attracts thousands of visitors while maintaining its focus on family, community, and giving back.
Proceeds from the rodeo have supported efforts such as:
· Local scholarships
· Church and youth programs
· Food pantry assistance
· Help for families facing emergencies
· Community projects and charitable organizations
The event also aims to provide a safe, family friendly celebration where residents can enjoy professional rodeo action, vendors, entertainment and activities while strengthening community connections.
