I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter holiday and enjoyed a fun or relaxing spring break. Taking time to focus on what matters most—family, friends, and personal well-being—is always worthwhile.
I’m excited to share May’s issue of My City Magazine, which is filled with a diverse mix of engaging local stories and inspiring local residents.
This month features our final spring Home & Garden section, with a focus on Luxe Living and creating the perfect modern Michigan lake home. Beginning on page 16, you’ll find beautiful photography and stories designed to inspire your next home project. Be sure to take note of the featured local businesses in this section that can help you transform your dream home projects into reality. My City writer Keegan Deloney has also compiled a helpful guide to boat launches throughout Genesee County; perfect for making the most of the season.
If you’ve ever visited Gaines Jewelry, you likely know Mic Goulet. This year marks Mic’s 50th anniversary with the shop, an incredible milestone. Don’t miss his story.
You’ll also read about Janie Case Beuthin, a Flint resident who has transformed a vacant lot next to her home into a thriving garden and blossoming business, Twig End Farm. You can find her products at the Flint Farmers’ Market.
Our monthly Eats feature spotlights Battle Alley Brewing Co. in Holly. Discover how two married couples joined forces to create a welcoming space offering delicious homemade food, craft beer, and more.
In “In Zinn We Trust,” My City writer Mark Spezia profiles Averie Zinn, a Genesee High School senior who has broken varsity basketball records and plans to continue her athletic career at Wayne State this fall.
Also in this issue, My City writer Gary Fisher explores the history of soccer in Flint. Local readers will recognize many of the individuals featured. Be sure to check out his story on page 46.
I’m continually grateful for our talented columnists, whose thoughtful perspectives cover a wide range of topics. I hope you enjoy their contributions as much as I do.
As we welcome warmer weather and sunnier days, let us also take time this month to honor our military veterans. Many communities will host memorials and parades in observance of Memorial Day on May 25, a meaningful opportunity to remember and give thanks.

Have you viewed pictures from the Hubble Telescope, like the Tapestry of Blazing Starbirth or the Ring Nebula, that light up the darkness with bursts of magnificent color? Have you pondered the quantity of stars—too numerous to count? Have you paused to wonder what it’s all for? What are we to learn or understand from it? Is there purpose in it all? Is there something, or someone, out there?
