It’s National Chicken Wing Day!

Today, July 29, is National Chicken Wing Day! This special day is devoted to all things wings and was established in 1977 by Stan Makowski, the then-mayor of Buffalo, NY. The holiday originally celebrated the people of Buffalo’s penchant for consuming ”thousands of pounds of chicken wings” at restaurants every week, according to the New York Times.

It has been reported The Anchor Bar in Buffalo, is largely credited with being the inventor of the modern buffalo wing in 1964, although other restaurateurs in the area have challenged that claim. Today, however, chicken wings, also known as Buffalo wings or hot wings, will be celebrated all around the country. The tasty morsels are enjoyed dipped in sauces such as ranch and blue cheese, along with some crispy and crunchy celery and carrot sticks.

And what better way to celebrate the occasion than by eating some finger-licking-good wings from a local restaurant. Buffalo Wild Wings in the area are celebrating the day by giving hungry guests six free chicken wings with the purchase of any size order of wings! Check out your favorite wing place today and see what they have to offer.
