It’s that time of year again! Catholic Charities is gearing up for their St. Patrick’s Day Box Lunch Sale on Tuesday, March 17. This annual fundraiser is a Flint tradition, offering a box lunch featuring a sandwich, stacked high with corned beef and Swiss on rye, chips, coleslaw, a pickle and treat – all for only $8. Drive-thru pick up is between 10am-1pm, in front of Catholic Charities main office at 901 Chippewa St., Flint. Free delivery in Genesee County is offered for orders of 15 or more. “Catholic Charities’ St. Patrick’s Day Sale has been a tradition for many years in our community. Whether they are Irish or not, people look forward to the delicious corned beef sandwiches and homemade coleslaw, as well as helping a good cause,” says Vicky Schultz, President/CEO of Catholic Charities. “The event is close to our hearts here at Catholic Charities because our campus is in the former St. Michael’s School, across the street from St. Michael’s Catholic Church which dates to 1834, when five Irish Catholic families began holding prayer services on the site. It seems only fitting that we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!”
Proceeds from the box lunch sale benefit Catholic Charities’ meal programs including the Center for Hope Soup Kitchen, the North End Soup Kitchen, and the South Flint Soup Kitchen, as well as our Sack Lunch Program. The Sack Lunch Program prepares and distributes sack lunches at three community locations: Bread of Life, My Brother’s Keeper, and One Stop Sandwich Program at the Shelter of Flint. In 2019, Catholic Charities made 173,695 meals for those in need. By purchasing your lunch with us this St. Patrick’s Day, you are literally putting food on the table for someone in need.
“Each year the sale gets bigger, with more than 2,300 lunches sold in 2018,” says John Manse, Director of Community Services at Catholic Charities. “Community response to this fundraiser has been tremendous. Everyone needs to eat lunch so why not make your lunch count! The money we take in makes a such a big difference for the people we serve each day. We are very grateful to the community for their support.”
