City of Burton Memorial Day Race 2020 goes virtual

The city of Burton Memorial Day 5K Run & Walk is held annually on Memorial Day, which fall this year on Monday May 25. Proceeds benefit the Salvation Army as well as numerous local programs. In order to keep with the social distancing guidelines this year, the Burton Memorial Day race will be transferred to a virtual race. You can run or walk at a location of your choice.

Knowing that many people have suffered the loss of income,  the event this year is completely free. The committee wants to encourage everyone to get outside and continue training while still adhering to the 6-feet distancing guidelines. Holding the event virtually will allow everyone to still qualify for the Burton Race Series by completing three out of the four events.

Participants must submit their results online to qualify. The window for submitting results will be from May 25-June 25. With businesses being shut down, no shirts or medals will be given out. However, with the decision to make the event free, the hope is that sharing your pictures and videos will create the community atmosphere to push others to stay healthy. Share your running and walking pictures and videos with the hash tags #runsaferunsolo, #runburton and #walksafewalksolo.

Anyone that is already registered will be receiving a refund. Do not send any paper entries to City Hall. The City of Burton Memorial Day 5k Run & 5K Walk is the third event in the Burton Race Series.
