Grow Your Grocery List! Sunny windowsills are perfect for growing most vegetables and herbs indoors!

Craving homegrown carrots? Round and Globe varieties have shallow roots, making them easier to grow in boxes, troughs, and pans. If you love the crunch of fresh potatoes, however, you’ll need a large pot near a window. Make sure to leave space at the top of the pot for adding compost to the soil as they thrive. Tumbler tomatoes can easily be grown from seed or small plantlets in window boxes or hanging baskets, while dwarf varieties of french beans, broad beans and runner beans make effortless houseplants.

Herbs that fare best when grown indoors include Bay, Chives, Oregano, Parsley, Rosemary, Sage and Thyme. Nearly all indoor plants grow best in south-facing windows where they receive the most sunlight. While herbs vary in how much water they need, most vegetables need up to half a gallon a day.
