Tapping into Beer!

Whether you are an avid beer fan or simply like experiencing new tastes – the Art on Tap beer tent is for you! Presented by Applebee’s, the annual beer tasting event features 32 breweries and kicks off at the Flint Institute of Arts this Saturday, September 19, from 4-8pm

Ticket prices are $30 in advance, or $35 at the door. For this price, guests receive a tasting glass to carry with them all night and five beer tasting tickets. These tickets can be used to try five different beers at the event. Additional tasting tickets can be purchased for $1 each.

There will also be a VIP event from 3-4pm for anyone willing to pay a little extra. For $50 ($55 at the door) guests can join craft beer experts, Cowboy Doug and Beth Huyck, for a discussion ranging in beer topics. VIP attendees will also get the chance to taste four exclusive beers that will not be at the main event.

Art on Tap features samples of select Michigan craft beers from local breweries as well as flavors from national brands. Some of the breweries that will be in attendance include Tenacity Brewing, Frankenmuth Brewery, Redwood Brewing Company and Fenton Wine & Brewery. Food will be provided by Redwood Steakhouse and will feature flavors of the Flint City Market cuisine. Live entertainment will be provided by Reichlin Small Group. There will also be a silent auction with Detroit Lions tickets and other prizes, a raffle, and much more!

Co-chair of the event, Kim Colmer, explains how art and beer really do go hand-in-hand. “Beer is like a liquid art,” she says. “There is such a large palate when it comes to beer. So many flavors can be added and the brew masters really get to do a lot with it,” Kim continues.

Kim was also quick to point out one area the event is expanding on this year – hard cider. “Cider is very up-and-coming,” she says. “This year there will definitely be more hard cider available for tasting,” Kim says.

Art on Tap is the second largest fundraiser the FIA puts on. All proceeds benefit FIA programming and exhibitions. Art on Tap is in partnership with John P. O’Sullivan Distributing, Inc. & Fabiano Brothers, Inc.
