“From the Publisher” March 2017

Like it says on our cover, “Arts, Events, History, Outreach, Food, Fun & More!” Every month, our team works incredibly hard to create a publication that offers both engaging style and quality substance. And, we make it happen.

It’s Women’s History Month, and there’s never a shortage of Greater Flint women to highlight – achieving success in many different arenas. We choose local business owners, and as an entrepreneur, I know what’s involved in their pursuits. We salute this group for their dedication. One is a dear, personal friend and fellow servant of Fenton Township, Supervisor Bonnie Mathis, and I’m proud to include her in this piece, along with the other “Impassioned & Inspiring” women.

Inspiration is everywhere – at MCM, we are always encouraged by the never-ending stories of people who are working to make Downtown Flint a better place, and helping their fellow citizens live better lives. You might not know about the efforts of the folks at Factory Two and Forge Flint Good stuff.

The subjects of the “My Arts” feature are huge supporters of the Flint arts community – my good friends, Khalil and Ann Saab. They graciously shared their private collection of works, and offer advice for those who aspire to start their own collections.

It’s no secret: people love to share their memories! Greater Flint residents and ex-pats, as well, are so passionate about their city. Our “Flashback” is a collection of thoughts about time spent working at the iconic AC Spark Plug, shared on our Facebook page. Maybe you have something to share?

We’ve shared so many great stories with our readers – I’m always so impressed with our profiles of young people who are driven by a passion. Check out “Mia Aubuchon: Creative Force”. Pretty sure I wasn’t that focused at age 13. And in our fourth annual bridal section, local couples shared the stories of their special day that included cultural traditions. Very cool “Real Weddings”.

Finally, we’ve got another great “My Haps” section – over ten pages of people supporting Greater Flint events. My City sells out all over town, partly because we have 100s of smiling faces in every issue. Our photographer, Eric Dutro, is everywhere! But, it’s not just about people showing up for a good party; they’re supporting great causes. Whether it’s raising money for animals, the arts, or neighbors in need, the people of Greater Flint give back, big league!

Subscribers: Look for our spring issue of My City Wellness with your April issue.
Happy Spring, everyone!
