The Humane Society of Genesee County celebrated a milestone today – its 90-year anniversary. In honor of the occasion, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the shelter by the Burton Chamber of Commerce.

You can help celebrate with the Humane Society by adopting a pet. Adoptions Specials are available today and Saturday for all of the companion pets, according to Lin Holmes, who is in charge of adoptions at the shelter. Adult cats can be adopted for $25, kittens $50, and dogs $50-$75.

According to Lin, takings advantage of the specials can be a tremendous costs savings for a new pet owner as the animals are spayed, neutered and micro-chipped. Dogs over six months old have been for tested heart worms and all dogs and cats are up to date on shots, she reports. “Come out and celebrate with us. Every animal here is waiting to find a home!” Lin exclaimed.

According to Alexandra Giguere, Marketing Event Manager, the Humane Society of Genesee County cares for over 175 animals every day. She also noted that there is no time limit as to how long an animal can stay at the shelter. “They are here until they find their ‘forever’ home.”
