“From the Publisher” – June 2016

It’s MCM’s third anniversary!

We may have been in print for just three years, but we quickly became Greater Flint’s favorite monthly magazine and accomplished many great things. One such thing is our City’s Choice Awards – this year’s voting was over the top! Nearly 13,000 votes were cast. And, we’re so proud to have a piece about the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation®, celebrating 90 years this month. Foundation CEO Bill White and President, Ridgway White grace our cover, and also granted us an interview about the family’s long-standing benevolent endeavor, its past, present and future. We also have a great story from Bill Moeller, a local man who was a friend of C.S. Mott, and he recalls their time together.

The Mott legacy is also present at the Applewood Estate, celebrating a centennial anniversary this year and now sharing more of its amazing history with the public. Make time to visit this summer.

Some may think we try to paint a rosy picture – but there are so many positive and inspiring stories that only MCM can tell. In our “Community” section, we take a look at Motherly Intercession, an organization that helps kids who have incarcerated parents. They’re doing great things, as are the people of Family Promise, working with area churches and reaching out to change the lives of homeless families. We also talked to a few good people who spend time volunteering at local animal shelters about what it means to them.

Of course, we round out our content with Eats, Music, Sports, Arts, Style … and our great, local contributing writers. Check out the “Flashback” to the Buick Open – thanks to all who shared their memories of the world-class event we all enjoyed so much.

MCM’s Allison Rosbury (an out-of-towner) was recently Downtown exploring (and eating!)We have a fun look at her day. There are many special events coming up – I hope you can enjoy all that Flint has to offer this summer.

I sometimes feel redundant here, but there are so many local happenings to attend, most for very worthy causes. As the Flint Institute of Music’s Board of Trustees Chairman, I was privileged to help honor outgoing FIM President, Paul Torre, at the Annual Fundraising Auction on May 20. Paul is enjoying a well-deserved retirement, and FIM is ready to carry on his legacy of community enrichment.

As we start Volume 4, I hope you continue to enjoy My City!

Thanks for reading,
