Flint, Michigan – On September 12, 2015, Flint Mayor Dayne Walling will go nose to nose with former WBO and IBF heavyweight world champion Chris Byrd at the “Knock Out Kidney Disease” event. The fundraiser is being hosted by the Universal Kidney foundation as a way to generate awareness about Chronic Kidney Disease and support their community outreach and education efforts.

This amazing endeavor by Mayor Walling will take place during the Celebrity Exhibition portion of the evening on September 12, 2015, at the Dort Federal Credit Union (formally Perani Event Center).

Over 26 million Americans are diagnosed with Kidney disease each year. That is more than those impacted by Breast and Prostate Cancer combined. Kidney Disease can affect anyone, but a few of the main causes include; diabetes, hypertension, obesity and a family history of kidney disease. When Kidney disease reaches advanced stages (Chronic Kidney Disease) dangerous levels of fluid and wastes build up in your body resulting in end stage Kidney failure which is fatal without dialysis or a Kidney Transplant.

Mayor Walling feels that getting in the ring with a former heavyweight champion is a great way to show the community the collaborative efforts to combat Kidney Disease and support the people in our community who are suffering with this debilitating illness.

Tickets for to this event are $35 each or $75 for a VIP chance to meet the celebrity boxers; Claressa Shields, Andre Dirrell, Anthony Dirrell, and of course Chris Byrd, and are available at the Dort Federal Credit Union, the Universal Kidney Foundation, Music Planet and Ticketmaster. As this is a fundraiser the price of the ticket may count as a donation and is deductible to the full extent of the law.
