Aiming to bring the greater Flint community together through food, live music, and conversation, Flint Community Cookout is an organization that has facilitated Downtown cookouts on the last Saturday of each month for nearly three years. The food is donated and free for all to eat, all the work is done by volunteers, and come rain or shine, in the cold of winter and the heat of summer, Flint Community Cookout is sure to take place at Riverfront Park from 1pm to 4pm.

Coming from humble beginnings, the cookout has steadily grown in attendance over the years. Often, those who come out for the gathering are the city’s disadvantaged, but Flint Community Cookout would prefer to be known as more than a “Let’s go and feed the homeless” initiative, as explained to My City Magazine by a representative of the organization. The focus is on people of all walks of life gathering to have a bite to eat and enjoy conversation with one another, with no one man or larger entity receiving any glory for the effort.

If serving at something like the Flint Community Cookout piques your interest, then you are in luck. They always welcome new, faithful volunteers who are willing to serve the community with humility and patience. They can be found on Facebook at Flint Community Cookout.

See you there!
