The YWCA of Greater Flint Welcomes Ilyasah Shabazz!

On Thursday, November 7, from 11:30-1 p.m. at the Genesys Banquet and Conference Center, the YWCA of Greater Flint will hold its major-fundraising event. The luncheon will feature keynote speaker Ilyasah Shabazz, the daughter of Malcolm X. Shabazz is a staunch advocate for youth and woman empowerment and promotes higher education for at-risk youth.

Ms. Shabazz is the author of for award-winning novels and has earned an NAACP Image Award, a Walter Dean Myers Honor, a Library of Congress Inaugural Award, an American Library Association Coretta Scott King Honor, a New York Times list of New & Noteworthy Mention and she was long-listed for the National Book Award.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the YWCA’s programs in the areas of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as new initiatives focusing on women’s empowerment and social justice.

Seats are still available. To register for this event, call 810.238.8844 by Tuesday, October 29. Registry is free but guests will be asked to make a $100 suggested donation at the event.
