The Meg Okura Trio Thursday, October 17 MacArthur Recital Hall of the FIM

The Meg Okura Trio will be performing a free concert this Thursday October 17, 2019!

Presented by the Flint Jewish Federation, Mott Community College and Flint Institute of Music and in honor of the Daniel Pearl World Music Days, the Grammy-nominated jazz violinist Meg Okura and her Trio will play a free concert at 7:30pm Thursday night (Oct. 17) at MacArthur Recital Hall of the FIM. The performance is a part of the FIM Music Around Town series of concerts and will be followed by a meet and greet in the Anderson Room.

Meg Okura will be available earlier in the day at Mott Community College where she will host a free masterclass in jazz improvisation in Memorial Auditorium from 4-5:30pm.

On Saturday, October 19 the Flint Jewish Federation presents the “Humanity in Harmony” Music Festival at MacArthur Recital hall of the FIM. The concert will begin at 7:30pm and will feature the Dort Honors String Trio, the Meg Okura Jazz Quartet, Mustard’s Retreat, and folk duo We Are the Northern Lights.  The Festival will be hosted by noted broadcaster Michael J. Thorp and 2019 Daniel Pearl World Music Days Journalist in Residence Dawn Jones of ABC 12 will present over $1000 in prizes to high school essay award winners.

The Daniel Pearl World Music Day is a celebration honoring the contributions of musician/journalist Daniel Pearl in both his life and work. While on assignment for the Wall Street Journal in Pakistan, he was kidnapped and subsequently killed by his captors for being an American journalist and Jewish. Daniel Pearl World Music Days has been celebrated around the world since 2002 and over 1,500 concerts have been conducted in over 60 countries.
