Congratulations are in order to the Area 13 Special Olympics of Michigan – the men’s volleyball team won the gold medal against Uruguay, 2-1, at the World Games in Los Angeles.

All 12 team members are from Genesee County, and they all attend, or are alumni, of Elmer Knopf Learning Center in Flint. Since 2002, the volleyball team is the first from Genesee County to compete.

After successfully raising the funds required for the trip, the highly-anticipated competition paid off for the entire team’s dedication and passion to the game.

With nearly 400 people in the crowd, the team was welcomed with cheering, signs, and smiling faces at Bishop Airport this afternoon, August 3rd, to celebrate their victory.

Flint proudly welcomes the team home!
