Kohl’s program for giving back, called Kohl’s Cares, has teamed up with Hurley Children’s Hospital to help kids learn about healthy eating. The kickoff event of Kohl’s Cares for Healthy Kids was held on September 14 at the Flint Farmers’ Market, where food stations were set up and Hurley chefs demonstrated the preparation of healthy snacks, meals and desserts. Kids were offered fresh vegetables and fruits, including cucumbers, tomatoes, apples and plums. Those adventurous enough to try three new fruits or veggies won a $5 Farmers’ Market gift card.

“We’re teaching them while they are young to make the best choices and be healthy forever,” says Danielle Campbell, Hurley Community Wellness Manager. Kids also learned about the high sugar content of most fruit juices and were advised about the benefits of drinking water instead. “You’d be surprised by what we’re feeding our kids,” said Danielle. Education at the event extended to parents, as well, who received tips about packing healthier lunch boxes for kids.

During the event, Kohl’s Cares presented the Hurley Foundation with a check for $103,455 in support of other Kohl’s Cares for Healthy Kids events. “We are very grateful to Kohl’s for being a wonderful advocate to the community!” exclaimed Danielle. Other activities included a music show, called The Magic of Healthy Living, presented by Radio Disney. Kids danced to the music and participated in a variety of fun physical activities. Throughout the day, drawings were held for three Kohl’s gift cards and an Ultimate Radio Disney gift basket.
