Cover10-15Dear Readers,

Well, the calendar doesn’t lie … summer is officially gone. And what a summer it was! Check out coverage of the season-ending events. As always: so many faces! Count on Team My City to cover all of the top notch happenings coming up this fall; the Pink Night fundraiser for breast cancer research, Firebirds Hockey, the Humane Society’s fundraiser, The Flint Youth Theater’s Masquerade Ball & Benefit – too many to mention. The citizens of Greater Flint are always ready to turn out for a great cause, and I hope to see you at these events.

Some of you may have looked at our cover and wondered, “What the … ?” Last month, Flint Mayor Dayne Walling stepped into the boxing ring with former IBF, WBO and WBU heavyweight champ, Chris Byrd, to raise money for the Universal Kidney Foundation. It was a great affair at the new Dort Federal Event Center.

Football season is in high gear, and the kids at Bentley High School are certainly lucky to have former Flint Central, U of M and NFL standout, Andre Weathers, as their new coach. He’s just one more Flint native who is giving back and changing lives. Changing lives in a different way is the Kettering University Crash Safety Lab – read about their important research. Like every issue of MCM, the variety of our content is impressive.

Talk about impressive: Hockey is back in Flint in a BIG way! The new Flint Firebirds opened their inaugural season in late September – so exciting for our city! I hope you’re able to catch the games. My team is proud to be creating the Firebirds’ souvenir programs and to be part of the hometown pride they will bring to Flint.

While we love to talk about Flint’s future, there’s so much to say about its past. Check out the “Flashback” on the IMA Auditorium – great memories – and, we did a piece on the haunted history at the Stockton House and Capitol Theatre (we like to get spooky around Halloween). We even hung out Downtown for an evening with a zombie.

Rounding out the content are profiles of people who have passion and vision for Flint. One such person has been a good friend of mine for over 20 years; Ghassan Saab. He continues to invest in Flint’s future and as a businessman, I’ve always considered him an example of character, humility and generosity. He took some time from his busy schedule to be our “My Success” subject. Thanks, Ghassan.

There’s plenty more to enjoy in this issue! I always welcome your feedback – thanks for reading.
