At noon on Wednesday, November 7, the ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at the Flint Repertory Theatre. The new Flint Rep is the exciting expansion of the Flint Youth Theatre and will bring original, professional theatre to the city. Students, professionals, and patrons of all ages will be able to learn, create, and enjoy the performing arts in a myriad of ways. The Flint Rep will feature both child and adult musicals, plays and workshops designed to entertain and teach. A new feature of the theatre is the addition of adult classes with such subjects as improv, character building and Shakespeare. “Our new mission is to provide the community with highly imaginative, thought-provoking theatre that is challenging, entertaining and inspiring for all ages,” says Michael Lluberes, Producing Artistic Director.

The Flint Repertory Theatre has a great slate of original and classic performances planned for this, the inaugural season. Their signature series will feature the dangerous musical Assassins, the highly athletic and well-written Wolves, the classic The Glass Menagerie, and the absurdly strange musical Songs About Stuff: The Music of Wally Pleasant. For the youth comes the classic The Little Prince, and the brand-new hit musical from New York, The Riddle of the Trilobites.

Everyone associated with the Flint Cultural Center and the new Flint Repertory Theatre are extremely excited and proud about what the future will bring. “This is an amazing city and it deserves an amazing theatre,” says Lluberes.

Tickets for upcoming shows can be purchased at flintrep.org. The current production, Assassins, will run Nov. 9-11 and Nov. 16-18. Tickets are still available.
