Be an Everyday Hero! Financial Plus Credit Union Partners to host Community Blood Drive

Blood donations are at an all-time low with so many people traveling and vacationing during the summer months. In order to fill the need for more donors, Financial Plus Credit Union is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive event. The blood drive will take place Friday, July 26 from 10am-3:45pm at the Financial Plus Main office at G-3381 Van Slyke Road in Flint.

According to a recently released statement by Financial Plus, the American Red Cross declared an emergency blood shortage and are encouraging people to give blood, especially type-O donors. The American Red Cross provides about 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply.

“Blood supplies are at an all-time low and we are encouraging our community members and employees to donate and be an everyday hero,” says Olga Long, Vice President of Strategic Growth and Marketing. “By donating one pint of blood, you can save up to three lives. The need for blood locally remains constant and our goal is to help keep our local blood banks full during the summer months.”

It only takes a short time to become an everyday hero by donating your blood. According to Long, the actual blood donation will only take 15 minutes. Potential donors can sign up in advance at www.redcrossblood.org and Walk-ins are always welcome. You can also schedule an appointment by telephone. For more information on the blood drive, contact Kristen Brisbin, Public Relations and Social Media Specialist at (810) 244-2507 or KBrisbin@myFPCU.com.
