Batter Up! Traverse City Loves The Beach Bums

0

Summertime is the peak season for tourism in Traverse City – and it just wouldn’t be summer without baseball and hot dogs. TC Residents and tourists alike love their professional baseball team – the Beach Bums – based in the TC suburb of Blair Township. The popular team is a member of the East Division of the Frontier League, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball.

From the 2006 season to the present, the Beach Bums have played their home games at Wuerfel Park. The name “Beach Bums” refers to the residents and visitors who come to spend time on the white sand beaches for which Traverse City is famous. The team’s colors of navy blue and gold represent the region’s bays and bright summer sunshine.

Wuerfel Park averages well over 200,000 fans per season for the Beach Bums’ home games, ranking near the top of attendance lists in independent baseball. Attracting a mix of loyal, local fans, tourists and regional baseball enthusiasts, the Beach Bums are currently playing their tenth season and will host 51 games at Wuerfel Park in 2015.
